A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 836 to SushiMonstersFC Arena. Jiří Zaspal was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Detlev Joly and . The match took place on neutral ground. Hannover96 decided to use a 3-4-3 set up. The following players had been chosen: Martin - Balló, Vermeiren, Holt - Faruk, Katich, Domingues, Benton-Evans - Li, Pluquet, 遠藤 (Endo).

Spondinig had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. Starters: Auer - Reggendorfer, Katzenbeisser, Höfler - Viên Phúc, Braun, Putz, Vallant - Czech, Hackl, 境 (Sakai).

Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 8 minutes into the match, and Stefan Hackl wasn't about to let it go by. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 0 - 1 for the visitors. The cannonball from 35 metres by Damon Holt of Hannover96 was an impressive sight, but didn't make it into the net. Spondinig increased their lead after 10 minutes when Robert Katzenbeisser broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 2, much to the home crowd's dismay. 13 minutes into the match Spondinig's Gerhard Braun viciously shoved another player from behind while going for a loose ball and was sent off the pitch with a red card. The home crowd cheered when, after 17 minutes, Egon Reggendorfer's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. Hannover96 didn't give in and with 23 minutes played Brice Pluquet was able to make the score 1 - 2 after an attack on the right. Stefan Hackl wanted to play on, but the Spondinig coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 43 minutes into the game by Philipp Klein. After 44 minutes, Spondinig felt secure enough to make a tactical change. Philipp Klein and Robert Katzenbeisser assumed each others positions on the field. Halftime score was 1 - 2. Hannover96 claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 56 percent.

Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Hannover96's George Katich was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 46 minutes. Stephan Blackwell was given a chance to change things around. After 47 minutes, Hannover96 switched Geoffray Vermeiren with Mathieu Leroux, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch. Mathieu Leroux was handed the Hannover96 captain's armband. While defending the Spondinig lead, Nguyễn Viên Phúc got a new role. 55 minutes in the game, his coach ordered him to change positions with Egon Reggendorfer. With 56 minutes having been played, Hannover96 scored to make it 2 - 2. A dribble down the left wing, followed by a shot which took a wicked bounce off a defender resulted in the keeper having no chance. Everyone thought it'd been an own goal, but Bud Benton-Evans was marked down as the scorer. 63 minutes into the match, the Hannover96 manager wanted to try a new tactic, and the players loyally obliged. Spondinig's Nguyễn Viên Phúc was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 65 minutes. Bud Benton-Evans would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Nicolas McDonough entered the game for Hannover96 as the match clock showed 66 minutes. 66 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Spondinig substitution. Nikolaus Fasching came on for Andrei Czech. The Spondinig captaincy was handed to Philipp Klein. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to Stephan Blackwell, but the Hannover96 player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 3 - 2! Encouraged by their lead, after 67 minutes the Hannover96 coach asked Nicolas McDonough to change positions with Damon Holt. Nguyễn Viên Phúc of Spondinig seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 3 - 3 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by 広樹 (Hiroki) 境 (Sakai). Some great play up the middle by Hannover96 led to a chance for Vincent Li to score after 73 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar. After 74 minutes, Spondinig's Nikolaus Fasching fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit! Hannover96 broke through on the left 80 minutes into the game, with Damon Holt firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 4 - 3 lead. The score became 5 - 3 at 81 minutes into the game, when Hannover96 were given a penalty which 達也 (Tatsuya) 遠藤 (Endo) blasted straight down the middle giving the keeper no chance! Hannover96 enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 62 percent of possession.

Mathieu Leroux performed admirably for Hannover96. On the other hand, Nicolas McDonough's play was disheartening. Spondinig's top performer was clearly Nikolaus Fasching. Sascha Auer on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 5 - 3.
