The crowd of 117211 turning up at Hässelby Arena today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain. Peter 'Gritte' Börjesson was the appointed referee with assistance provided by and Ticão Diniz Leal. Sverige had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Lineup: Molbrant - Rodskog, Erskär, Edenbo - Pettersson, Bladell, Pettersson, Duvstad, Oskarsson - Danielsson, Rogersson.

A 5-3-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Ecuador. The following players took the field: Jarrín - Palacios, Yanchapaxi, Jaramillo, Benítez, Velásquez - Robles, Vargas, Ruiz - Donoso, Galindo.

Sverige were mostly trying to use their divine (+2) skill at attacking on the flanks. For their match strategy, Ecuador had decided to use their mythical ability to counter-attack whenever possible. At 27 minutes played, Claes Oskarsson came in from the right with the intention of giving Sverige the lead, but his rocket of a shot rattled the crossbar. As Daniel Edenbo had, completely unprovoked, swept the legs out from under an opponent in front of a linesman, the referee gave the Sverige player a red card without batting an eyelid. Edgar Donoso was uncomfortable with the soggy pitch as he couldn't move the ball around with his usual grace. The terraces were silenced after 32 minutes when Ecuador's Patricio Yanchapaxi put the guests ahead 0 - 1, following an attack on the right. Players in Sverige heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their central attacks to the wings instead. Sverige's Tomas 'Game Winner' Bladell put his head to a well placed ball, lifted in from the left, and scored to make the score 1 - 1 with 37 minutes showing on the scoreboard clock. With 40 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending. Edgar Donoso put the ball away for 1 - 2. Sverige's Svante Rogersson made a successful breakthrough on the left after 41 minutes and should have levelled the score, but instead he clipped it over the bar. Coming in from the right, Ecuador had a good opportunity to convert on a counterattack after 42 minutes, but Edgar Donoso's attempt to finish was easily stopped. Ecuador's Juan Carlos Jaramillo got himself booked for a foul. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 2. Possession in this half belonged to Sverige, who controlled the ball 68 percent of the time.

A tussle 55 minutes into the match resulted in a penalty being awarded to the home team and Håkan Rodskog put the ball into the back of the net without any difficulty. That tied the score up at 2 - 2. Sverige's Claes Oskarsson was shown a yellow card after 63 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Oliver 'Tapas' Pettersson did not have a good day today, often losing his footing on the muddy pitch. 70 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Sverige substitution. Kent Grundhall came on for Oliver 'Tapas' Pettersson. The referee showed Ecuador's Edgar Donoso the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Under heavy pressure after 83 minutes, the inexperienced Ecuador struggled to maintain their level of play. After 84 minutes, Sverige were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise. Urban 'Ubbe' Danielsson did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans. 85 minutes into the game, Ecuador wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Pancho Galindo gave Wilmer Izurieta a quick hug as he left the field. Ecuador almost scored after a swift counterattack 85 minutes into the game, but Wilmer Izurieta put the shot from the left flank just outside the goal. After 86 minutes, the Ecuador coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Mario Robles off the field. Gilmar Del Castillo took his place. Sverige broke through on the left 86 minutes into the game, with Urban 'Ubbe' Danielsson firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 3 - 2 lead. With 89 minutes played, the Ecuador coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. Jorge Zuquilanda came on, Kleber Velásquez had to leave the fray. Sverige claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 70 percent.

Sverige's top performer was clearly Svante Rogersson. Martin 'Duvan' Duvstad was a disappointment, however. The most dominating Ecuador player was without a doubt Edgar Donoso. Vicente Benítez turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 3 - 2.
