France 0 - 0 Kenya

Dark skies made the crowd of 140243 at Stade du 13 juillet a little nervous, but the rain held off. Gigi Lazzara was the appointed referee with assistance provided by and Sami Koskelo. France started off with a 2-5-3 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Gauche - Marie, Pionnier - Berthelon, Coutand, Allard, Charpentier, Pépin - Rochas, Petit, Millot.

Kenya tactics involved an interesting 5-5-0 combination. The following players took the field: Tanui - Mungai, Kosgei, Kwach, Hilali, Okayu - Kebiro, Mathani, Lusweti, Chipende, Muhavi -.

The strategy for Kenya was to use their outstanding ability to press. France's Romain Rochas tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but couldn't get past the visitors' defenders. Kenya's Kanu Kebiro placed the ball right at his teammate's feet after a corner, but Talib Hilali couldn't finish. Kenya's talent at pressing frustrated the spectators as the game became a dire midfield struggle. Kenya's Yusef Okayu was shown a yellow card after 23 minutes for slicing down an opponent. The player down was Sylvain Pépin. The France bench looked worried for a while, but in the end he managed to get up. Kenya's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends. Kenya's Chui 'The Special One' Mathani got himself booked for a foul. 0 - 0 was the score after the first half. Possession in this half belonged to France, who controlled the ball 55 percent of the time.

46 minutes into the match, the France manager wanted to try a new tactic, and the players loyally obliged. The coach of France wanted to try to change things around after 55 minutes, and gave new tactical instructions. France could have put themselves ahead after 64 minutes but Baptiste 'Panoramix' Petit missed a volley shot on a ball coming in from the right. With the match clock at 65 minutes, France modified their style of play a little bit. After a fine move down the middle Clément 'Tonton' Berthelon nearly gave the home side a goal after 72 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide. Under heavy pressure after 77 minutes, the inexperienced Kenya struggled to maintain their level of play. France made a bid to take the lead as a ball coming in on the right hand side left Baptiste 'Panoramix' Petit completely alone with keeper Sutaan 'The Grim Reaper' Tanui, who made a spectacular block. 83 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a France substitution. Emmanuel Pagniez came on for Anthony Coutand. Éric 'Le chevalier' Pionnier would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Maxime 'Wait For It' Combe entered the game for France as the match clock showed 85 minutes. France had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.

The most dominating France player was without a doubt Romain Rochas. Sylvain Pépin turned in a dismal performance, however. Sutaan 'The Grim Reaper' Tanui performed admirably for Kenya. Kanu Kebiro was a disappointment, however. The match ends 0 - 0.
