previous 2/10 next 4/10  Kinabalu 0 - 2 Langer (371639096)

51883 spectators arrived at Kota Kinabalu United Arena, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Víctor Ramos was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Emil Nemes and Andrea Salati. Kinabalu had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players took the field: Morales - Cereixo, 超翊 (Chaoyi) , Czartoryski - Franz, Vaihinger, Ağırtaş, Ambrósio, Jayan - Johannessen, Håvik.

Langer started off with a 3-4-3 lineup. They fielded: Vochin - Bajpai, Ibarra, Vlasenko - Świtoń, Ariyapadi, Satyanaraina, Jenayah - Piazzo, Nandini, Kazmi.

Kinabalu mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle. Langer clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. Some great play up the middle by Kinabalu led to a chance for G. Ambrósio to score after 3 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar. Slack defending gave Kinabalu a chance to take the lead with 6 minutes played, but T. Johannessen's cross from the left flank was fumbled in front of the goal and easily dealt with by the opposition. It was obvious that team Kinabalu had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. Langer's counterattacks were lethal to the opposing defence, allowing A. Nandini to score easily from the right flank for 0 - 1. 43 minutes into the game, U. Jayan came close to levelling the score with a dangerous shot from the centre of the area that went just over the bar. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 1. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Kinabalu, with 66 percent of the ball.

With 72 minutes played, Langer put themselves up 0 - 2 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was C. Piazzo. V. Ağırtaş did everything he could to get one back for his Kinabalu, but keeper A. Vochin denied him with a spectacular block. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave G. Ambrósio from Kinabalu a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 80 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Kinabalu had most of the ball, with 65 percent of possession.

Kinabalu's best player was G. Ambrósio. J. Morales was a disappointment, however. C. Piazzo performed admirably for Langer. A. Vochin turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 0 - 2.
